What it offers
- Rates per 100,000 residents for homicides, armed assaults, and other offenses, so that places of different sizes can be compared.
- Province and district profiles, comparisons, and interactive maps.
- Subcategories such as femicides, intimate-partner homicides, and crimes involving minors.
- An open dataset and an API for researchers, journalists, and institutions.
Data and method
The database combines large-scale news and event data with spatial and computational methods to identify, geolocate, and classify incidents. It makes patterns of violence and urban safety legible for researchers, institutions, and the public, and connects to my research on how safety varies across places.
The dataset is archived with a persistent identifier: 10.5281/zenodo.22921044.
